Being a popular vacation spot for many Romans, it is estimated that there were 10,000 to 20,000 people living in the city. There were many wealthy Romans that had summer homes there and spent long vacations in Pompeii. There was a forum on one side of the city where a lot of business was carried out, along with temples to Venus, Jupiter, and Apollo nearby. Aqueducts ran water to the city for public baths and fountains and the rich even had running water in their homes.
