In 79 AD, August to be precise, a beautiful Mediterranean town on the Italian Coast by the name of Pompeii was completely buried in ash as Mount Vesuvius erupted for 19 hours straight. This community would remain hidden and lost until 1738. The devastation was fatal and an entire population was buried in 60 feet of volcanic debris. It wasn't until the King of Naples needed a palace built on the same land 1,659 years later that workmen discovered the lost city's ruins.
